What is board game?

Board game is a type of game where the pieces of the game are placed on a specific surface for that game. This piece is called board and games played on board are called board games.

Board games may be very basic games like checkers or very complicated games like Chess or Cluedo. Most of the board games are played on computer with single player or with other players. The opponents may be the computer or any other human players on the same network. In multiplayer network games the player can the the opponents' movements and estimate their tactics to create his own strategy. Board games can be played the age from 3 to 90. For every age group there are different type of board games.

Luck, strategy and diplomacy in board games

Some of the board games include luck. These games are mostly for childrens and tend to be luck-based. Some of them are very deterministic and related with the strategy like Chess. Most of the board games involve both the strategy and the luck elements. In Risk game or in Monopoly game the player rolls the dice and the strategy is determined after this luck condition appeared.

Diplomacy is also another great factor in board games for the players making deals with each other. For the game Solitaire there is no player interaction. For two players also there is no diplomacy concept but if the player numbers increase more than three this diplomacy idea become more important. For Risk which contains luck and strategy items, the diplomacy is very important for player. Players team up againist others to survive and win the game.

Common terms in board games

Game board

It is the surface where the game played on. Most of the boards having standard boards like Chess, Backgammon and Go etc. On the other hand some of the board are customizable like tile or car games which have assumed varying layouts from one session to another.

Game piece

Game pieces are personal representatives of the players on the board. Each player may control one or many game pieces. For some games the pieces have different strengths and capabilities like Chess or have an equal strenghts and properties like Go board game. In the later board games like Clue, there are another type of pieces that is not the representative of the player like weapons and armos.
